Getting the Right Balance ....  


  • In some respects After Sales and Support is probably more important than the actual computer. Apart from hardware warranties, companies are under no additional obligation regarding the running and operation of your computer.
  • Most computer problems are software or settings related therefore use a company who offer software as well as hardware support.
  • Make sure the turn round time on warranty repairs are reasonable and meet your expectations.
  • Make sure that in the event of a hardware failure such as the hard drive where data loss is possible, every effort will be made to backup files and restore when new part is replaced.
  • A lot of companies provide a Restore Disk which contains the Windows System and all of the drivers required to set up the computer which you will be advised to use if you phone for help or support.
    This is not provided for your benefit but enables their call centre staff to determine whether your computer has a hardware or software problem by wiping the hard drive clean and installing factory settings.
    If everything works after using this disk then it's no longer a warranty problem and by the way, you have just lost all of your data.

Ask questions before you buy - don't be fobbed off - it's too late once you have made the purchase.
