Getting the Right Balance ....
- Some
companies advertise "loss leaders" which are very low cost, low
specification and low quality systems which appear to be a bargain but in
actual fact can be a nightmare.
Quite often these are out of stock and you are then directed to a more
expensive system which can catch you off guard and then commit to buying
something you don't really want.
Don't be caught out by these tactics.
- Another
common method used to give the impression of a low cost bargain computer
is to use unclear and confusing pricing structures with lots of add ons
and Ex Vat prices.
The initial headline price looks good but when everything is added to give
a reasonable specification level the cost can be quite high.
Unfortunately by this time you have spent so much time trying to sort
things out that you go for it anyway.
Don't be pressurised into buying from companies who use these methods. If
things are not clear then ask questions - if they are not explained to
your satisfaction then walk away.
Beware of the Delivery and/or Installation
Charges. These can add up to £50.00 or more onto the cost of the computer and
in a lot of cases very little work is included except plugging in the system
and making sure it turns on. Usually no operational checks are carried out.
