Right click on the row number/column letter where you would like to insert a new one, then click on Insert Cell and a cell will be inserted before/above the cell you selected.

Hover over the seperator between the row/column you wish to alter (the mouse cursor will change to a seperator with arrows either side of it), then simply hold down the left mouse button and drag in whichever direction you wish to expand that row/column.

If you have entered a number, or the date into a cell, and would like to increment this by 1 for every cell thereafter, then select the cell and in the bottom right hand corner of it there is a small black square. Hover over this and hold down the left mouse button and drag it down or to the right for as many cells that you wish to let Excel fill in, then simply let go of the left mouse button and all the hard work is done for you.

Right click a single cell, a row, or even a column and click Format Cells. This allows you to style a cell, row or column with a particular font or data type (e.g. currency).
