What do we mean by "Value for Money"?
This can be difficult to define because it varies between
people and situations but there are a few things which are always relevant when
trying to make a "Value for Money Judgement".
- Cost
How much you pay is important but cannot be the main consideration because
if you go for low price and it results in the product not giving you what
you want then you have wasted your money.
Also there could be an additional cost to achieve your requirements.
- Performance
Even without a lot of technical knowledge most people have an idea what
they should expect from a computer system but unfortunately with present
day high power advertising and marketing it is very easy to convince the
consumer that they can have what they want at a low price. In reality,
this is often not the case.
- Quality
To some degree this goes hand in hand with performance because usually
low cost products often mean limited capabilities and life expectancy as
well as poor upgradeability.
- After Sales Service & Support
Unless you are an expert, at some stage you will need some help or
support with your computer which could be operational, change of settings
or loading new software and applications.
Most computer companies will only support hardware problems during the
warranty period which is a bit limiting when you consider that the
reliability of components is quite high, particularly during the first
year.
